Machine 1713 is designed for stitching books, magazines, pamphlets, etc., up to 3/8 inch in thickness. The machine can readily be adjusted to make stitches varying in length from 1/4 to 1 inch and can be operated at a maximum speed of 100 stitches per minute.

The machine is equipped with a vibrating presser foot (walking foot) which acts in unison with the drop feed (feed dog). When the feed moves the work forward it is assisted by the forward movement of the vibrating presser, so as to reduce the tendency for the lower plies of paper to be carried forward faster than the upper plies. An excellent grade of work is thus produced, all the plies of paper being stitched uniformly throughout.
